"Endeavour Once more" is a song recorded by American vocalizer Aaliyah for the soundtrack to the 2000 film Romeo Must Dice. Information technology was written by Static Major and Timbaland, and produced by the latter. The song features an intro in which Timbaland pays homage to Eric B. & Rakim by rapping the duo'due south opening verse from "I Know You lot Got Soul". "Endeavour Again" was released as the lead single from Romeo Must Die on March 21, 2000, by Blackground Records and Virgin Records. Information technology was later included equally a bonus runway on international editions of Aaliyah'due south eponymous 3rd and final studio album (2001).

"Try Again" was met with positive reviews from music critics and enjoyed commercial success. Music and lyrics [edit]

Musically, "Endeavor Once again" is an R&B, dance-popular and electro song.[vii] [eight] Information technology features Timbaland'due south fuzzy, booming soundscape influenced by acid house. Yahoo! On Feb eighteen, 2000, it was announced that "Try Over again" would be released as the lead single from the Romeo Must Die: The Album soundtrack, while an accompanying music video would exist directed by Wayne Isham.[12] Blackground Records and Virgin Records officially serviced it to rhythmic gimmicky radio in the United States on March 21, and to contemporary striking radio on April iv.[13] [fourteen] On May 22, a maxi CD single was issued in Europe.[15] In the U.k., the single was released on July 10, 2000, via three formats: a CD single, a cassette single, and a 12-inch vinyl single.[16]

To promote "Try Once more" and Romeo Must Die, Aaliyah performed the song during numerous televised appearances. Critical reception [edit]

Chuck Taylor from Billboard felt that Aaliyah had some other smash striking on her hands and praised her vocal styling by proverb: "Aaliyah'due south sultry vocals slide all over the futuristic beat". However, he had a mixed response to the product; although he thought the synth sample and snare alternate lived up to his expectations, he ultimately felt that the synth sample "becomes grating every bit the song progresses."[28]

Synopsis and Fashion [edit]

The accompanying music video for "Try Again" was directed by Wayne Isham.[61] Information technology begins with Jet Li entering a hall of mirrors and Aaliyah stepping in, wearing a revealing low-cutting bra and tight low-ascent leather pants, Timbaland is also shown. The music video for "Effort Over again" fabricated its official boob tube debut on MTV during the week of March 5, 2000.[64] On the week of March 12, the video debuted on the cable network aqueduct VH1.[65] Meanwhile, during the calendar week of March xix, the video debuted on The Box, while information technology debuted on BET on April 3.[66] [67] During its nautical chart run, the video received heavy television airplay on multiple music video countdown shows. For the calendar week ending May 8, the video was the most played video on BET.[68] On MTV, the video was the third nigh-played video during the week catastrophe May 22.[69]

Legacy [edit]

Endeavor Again" became the showtime airplay track to attain No. i on The Billboard Hot 100 without the benefit of a retail single.[70] George Michael sampled "Try Again" in his 2002 song "Freeek!".[71] German NDH band Knorkator covered the song on their album Ich hasse Musik. In a 2013 episode of The Mindy Projection, Dr. Danny (portrayed by Chris Messina) showed Mindy (portrayed by Mindy Kaling) the choreography from the vocal'southward music video.[72] [73] The vocal is ranked at number 225 on Billboards Greatest of All Time Songs of the Summertime chart.[74] On August 21, 2019, the Madame Tussauds Las Vegas revealed a wax figure of Aaliyah. The life-sized figure was modelled on Aaliyah'south advent in the music video for "Try Once more". It was unveiled by Aaliyah'due south brother Rashad Haughton to an invited audition.[75] [76] [77]
